Chris Davis is in his second season as an assistant coach for the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team.
Davis boasts a resume that includes three decades of Division I coaching experience, and includes stops at Central Michigan University, The United States Air Force Academy, the University of California Davis, Providence College, Drake University, and Western Michigan University.
Davis came to Memphis after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Central Michigan University. While on staff, the team posted a 23-12 record, tying for the program's second-highest single-season win total and also had back-to-back postseason appearances.
While at the University of California Davis, the team posted a 25-7 record, winning the 2015 Big West championship and a post-season berth in the NIT. Davis was instrumental in the development of 2015 Big West player of the year and Honorable Mention All-American, Cory Hawkins. Hawkins finished his career as the all-time leading scorer at UC Davis.
Davis was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Providence College from 2008-11. In 2009, the Friars posted 19 wins including 10 Big East wins, the most in school history for a first-year staff. The following year, the team posted wins over two top-20 ranked teams, including No. 8 ranked Villanova. In 2011, Providence defeated eventual NCAA Champion, No. 19 Connecticut.
Davis was instrumental in the development of Providence standout guard MarShon Brooks. Brooks finished the 2010-11 season as a First Team All-Big East selection and a Third Team All-American. Brooks, who was also selected in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, finished second in NCAA Division I with 24.6 ppg. Davis also recruited All-Big East guard, Bryce Cotton who went on to become the fifth leading scorer in Providence history.
Davis spent eight seasons on the coaching staff at Drake University, under three head coaches, including legendary Head Coach Dr. Tom Davis. Davis established himself as one of the most respected recruiters in the Missouri Valley Conference and was responsible for recruiting nearly every member of the 2007-08 Drake squad that posted a 28-5 mark, including 21 consecutive wins. The Bulldogs captured the Missouri Valley Conference regular season title, the conference tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1971. The Bulldogs finished No. 14 nationally in the AP and USA Today polls and boasted wins over No. 8 Butler, Iowa and Iowa State.
Davis recruited, and developed, two-time First-Team All-Missouri Valley Conference guard, Josh Young, who became Drake’s second all-time leading scorer, and Adam Emmenecker, the 2009 Larry Bird Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year.
Davis also coached five seasons at Western Michigan University, helping the program to a Mid-American Conference divisional championship and an NCAA tournament appearance, with a first-round win over Clemson before falling to Final Four participant, Stanford.
